GRAPEVINE — Police said they found a body near Acorn Woods Park in Grapevine on Wednesday morning.
Grapevine police said they responded to the 1000 block of Oak Grove Loop South near Grapevine Lake about 6:30 a.m. and found the body, which had been set on fire and partially dismembered.
Police are not saying if the person is a man or woman, but they confirm it’s an adult.
“The body appears to have been set on fire, and the body has some degree of dismemberment,” said Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling.
Police said they are investigating this as a homicide. It would be Grapevine’s first homicide in three years.
Police say they’re still questioning one witness who may have been the first to notice the body Wednesday morning.
Police would not confirm how officers were alerted to the fact that a body was in the woods.
The Texas Rangers and an evidence recovery team from the FBI is helping with the investigation, police say.
At this point, officers do not know how long the body was in the woods.
“There are some scattered trails throughout that area of the park,” Eberling said. “But I know it wasn’t in close proximity to a paved walking trail.”
