Stream Clean sees hundreds of volunteers
Hundreds of volunteers picked up about 2,040 pounds of trash and another 580 pounds of recyclable material Saturday during the annual Stream Clean.
Volunteers also picked up about a dozen tires and other large items that had been dumped.
The city of Denton Water Utilities Department, Environmental Services and Sustainability, the Solid Waste and Recycling Department and Keep Denton Beautiful all sponsor Stream Clean each year.
Groups from Denton ISD, the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University and Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 6 sent volunteers to help.
Stream Clean 2017 is tentatively planned for a Saturday in October. More information will be posted on the city’s website, www.cityofdenton.com.

Denton County Green Party sets meeting
The Denton County Green Party will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the University of North Texas’ Willis Library, 1506 W. Highland St.
Any Denton County resident seeking more information about the Green Party is encouraged to attend.
The meeting will follow the consensus method, which allows for return visitors, according to TxGreens.org.
The main goals are to allow everyone to participate, keep discussions focused on the topic at hand, prevent any one individual from dominating the process, keeping the agenda to a set time schedule and making sure actions decided upon have a mechanism for being carried out.
