Emergency supplies tax free this weekend

With tornado season underway, the state is giving residents a sales tax break on items that could be used during an emergency this weekend.

From Saturday through the end of the day Monday, state sales tax will be excluded on items such as batteries, generators and survival kits.

Generators that cost less than $3,000 are included, as well as emergency ladders and hurricane shutters that are less than $300.

A long list of products qualify for the tax break, as long as each individual item is $75 or less, including: phone chargers, batteries, axes, fire extinguishers and light sources like flashlights and lanterns.
