Music, art benefit slated Saturday

A music fest and art auction, benefiting the Denton County LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Team from the county MHMR Center, is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Dan's Silver Leaf, 103 Industrial St. in Denton.

Scheduled music performers include Joe Pat Hennen, Chris Watson, Tiny Outside, Michelle Mayfield and Joe Weppelman. Work by artists from multiple mediums will be available for bidding in live and silent auctions.

The second annual event funds resources the LOSS Team gives to people affected by suicide. Team members, including a mental health professional and a trained suicide survivor, accompany medical examiner's staff every time they receive a report of a suicide to assist friends and loved ones who experienced the traumatic event. The team later makes follow-up visits and phone calls to families for up to a year to help them following a loved one's death by suicide. Last year's fundraiser collected about $6,000, according to MHMR officials.

Admission to Saturday's benefit is $10 and $20 for those wanting an event T-shirt. Children under 12 get in free.
