Officials with the 35Express project have announced dates for the next quarterly meetings to update the public and business managers on the Interstate 35/35E expansion.
Two community meetings are slated for June 19 and 22 to update the public on progress of the I-35/I-35E expansion project, construction schedule and the new TEXpress managed toll lane system.
The north segment of the expansion, including Denton and Corinth, will be discussed at 6:30 p.m. June 19 at Crownover Middle School, 1901 Creekside Drive in Corinth. A community meeting to discuss the expansion's middle and southern segments, which runs through the Lake Cities area, Lewisville, Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Dallas, is slated for 6:30 p.m. June 22 at MLC Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St. in Lewisville.
Business managers and owners will be updated on the interstate's construction June 8 and 13. A meeting regarding the 35Express north segment is at 10 a.m. June 8 at Toyota of Denton, 4100 S. I-35E in Denton. The middle and southern segments will be discussed at 10 a.m. June 13 at the 35Express public information office, 2420 S. Stemmons Freeway in Lewisville.
35Express officials project construction for Phase 1 will come to a close this summer.
C.J. Schexnayder, a spokesman for the 35Express project, said a live video feed of the meetings will be available online for people unable to attend. The video will be archived for people to watch at their leisure on the 35Express website, he said.
As final touches on Phase 1 of the project come to a close, motorists can expect to see workers paving the roadways. The work will be done at night and includes double lane closures, Schexnayder said. Motorists should be on the lookout for paving work.
"People should expect rough pavement and uneven pavement as we complete this," he said.
Work on the $1.4 billion expansion began in 2013. The 35Express project encompasses a 30-mile stretch along I-35E/I-35 between U.S. Highway 380 in Denton County and Interstate 635 in Dallas County.
Managed by North Texas-based company AGL Constructors for the Texas Department of Transportation, Phase 1 of the 35Express project includes multiple frontage road and bridge improvements, including the southbound bridge along Lewisville Lake, additional general-purpose lanes in both directions, pedestrian and bike paths and an 18-mile reversible managed toll lane system.
Through 10 p.m. Tuesday, road closures will be curtailed and there will be "no major main lane or ramp closures" because of the Memorial Day weekend, according to 35Express officials.
