Board names new Providence principal

The Denton ISD school board named former Northwest ISD administrator Jairia Diggs the new Providence Elementary School principal during its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Diggs will take over for Julio Lopez, who will pursue other administrative opportunities, Denton ISD spokesman Mario Zavala said.

Diggs comes to Denton after serving as the assistant principal at Roanoke Elementary in Northwest ISD since 2013. She has 13 years of experience teaching multiple elementary grade levels at Keller and Northwest ISDs. She has also filled extra positions outside of the classroom, including campus technology liaison, University Interscholastic League coordinator and Destination Imagination coordinator.

Diggs received her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and her master's degree from Texas Woman's University. She has four elementary-aged children with her husband, James.

"As a mom and a school leader, my heart truly is for kids and their success," Diggs said in a press release. "I look forward to building relationships with our students, parents and staff as we collaborate for their success."
