Man hospitalized after shooting in Denton

A man was taken to Medical City Denton on Monday  night with multiple gunshot wounds after a shooting at the intersection of Mingo Road and Bell Avenue near Quakertown Park, according to Denton police.

Department spokesman Shane Kizer said the victim's current condition is unknown, and a suspect has not been identified.

He said the victim, who police have only identified as a man in his 20s, had been driving a Jaguar southbound on Mingo Road. After the man approached the stoplight at Bell Avenue, a man driving a vehicle in the adjacent lane shot him and fled the scene, Kizer said.

The Jaguar then crashed into a nearby impound lot, breaking a surrounding metal fence. Kizer did not know how many times the man had been shot.

About a dozen officers were on the scene examining evidence left behind, including the wrecked Jaguar.  The southbound lanes of Bell Avenue had been  shut down near the intersection.

No other injuries have been reported. Police are currently investigating the matter.
