Jeffrey Payne, a Democrat running for governor of Texas, will speak at a meeting of the Stonewall Democrats of Denton County from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wine Squared, 110 W. Oak St. in Denton. The event is open to the public.

A successful businessman in Dallas since 2005, Payne owns five diverse companies: a court reporting firm, a land holding company, a property management company, a retail clothing outlet and a night club. His success in business is what he intends to bring to the office, as well as his dedication to integrity, honesty, freedom and independence, what Jeffrey calls "Real Texas Values," according to a press release issued by the Stonewall Democrats of Denton County.

Founded in 2007, Stonewall Democrats of Denton County is a group dedicated to electing LGBT-friendly Democratic candidates and promoting full equality for all citizens — both LGBT and allies. The group is named in honor of the Stonewall Inn, where patrons of the Greenwich Village bar stood up to years of oppression by New York City police in June 1969 and paved the way for gay rights in America.
