Rodney Haire, the founder and president of Liberty Christian School, retired from his post in August after 34 years with the school.
To honor his service, Liberty Christian will host a come-and-go retirement reception for Haire from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the school, located at 1301 S. Highway 377 in Argyle.
Before he and his wife Judy started Liberty Christian, Haire graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and ran a textile company in Dallas with his father.
His family had moved to Argyle when Haire's daughter was bullied at school for being a Christian, according to a press release from Liberty Christian. Haire searched for a Christian school in the area with college preparatory classes. When he couldn't find one, he started his own.
"I think the Lord wants there to be a Christian school in this area, and I think he wants us to start it," Haire said he told his wife at the time.
The Haire family founded Liberty Christian in 1983 with 194 students. The school originally was located on South Bonnie Brae Street in Denton. As the years went on, the student body grew and the school moved to its current location in 2005. Today, Liberty Christian has 1,200 students and 250 staff members.
Former and current Liberty Christian students are invited to RSVP to the reception at https://register.libertychristian.com/warrior1. If families cannot attend, they can write a note of thanks to Haire that will be included in a scrapbook gifted to him and his family.
