Flower Mound resident Will Fisher filed this week as an official candidate for the Democratic nomination to the 26th District of the U.S. Congress.
Fisher announced his intent to run this summer and has since gathered more than 500 signatures of registered district voters to become a candidate.
He is the second person to file for a place on the Democratic ticket. Keller resident Linsey Fagan has also filed to run for the Democratic nomination to U.S. Congress District 26.
The office is currently held by Republican Michael Burgess of Pilot Point. Burgess has filed for re-election to the post he has held since 2002. Another Republican, Veronica Birkenstock of Frisco, has announced her intent to challenge Burgess in the primary, but she has not yet filed for the ballot, according to records with the Texas secretary of state.
The Democratic and Republican primary elections are March 6. Winners of the primaries will face off on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Candidates have until 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, to file for the primary election.
