State Sen. Jane Nelson of Flower Mound presided last week over the Denton County Republican Party's annual Volunteer Dinner, where volunteers were honored for their service and dedication to their local party.

More than 200 party members attended Thursday's dinner at the Royal Affairs Ballroom in Lewisville and listened to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's father, Rafael Cruz, give the keynote address. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and several other elected officials were also in attendance.

The Chairman's Award was given jointly to the party headquarters staff of Deon Starnes, Ginger McDaniel and Cindy Cole along with Debbie Terry, who serves on the State Republican Executive Committee. Terry also won the Outstanding Volunteer Award for her "years of unselfish volunteerism at many Republican Party activities, Republican campaigns, club events and within community organizations."
