Power outage affects 1,300 DME customers in southeastern Denton

A power outage Wednesday affected about 1,300 Denton Municipal Electric customers in southeastern Denton after an Oncor Electric Delivery line fell across a DME line, according to  DME's energy services manager Jessica Rogers.

The outage was first reported to DME at 11:48 a.m., and power was restored to all the customers by 12:53 p.m., she said. On Wednesday afternoon, Oncor and DME crews were still trying to find out what caused one line to cross the other, which was on West Shady Shores Road directly behind Bill Utter Ford, 4901 S. Interstate 35E in Corinth.

Rogers said the outage affected customers along the I-35E corridor near Lillian Miller Parkway, with the affected area stretching as far south as Guyer High School, she said. Guyer High is at 7501 Teasley Lane in far southeastern Denton.

Medical City Denton was briefly affected by the outage, but it did not effect any patients, according to hospital spokeswoman Dana Benton Long. She described the outage as more of a "power surge" in the main hospital and professional building, which comprises administrative offices. The emergency generator did not activate, she said.
