Floyd Travis Cook Floyd Travis Cook

Floyd Travis Cook, 84, of Bellevue passed away at his home on February 5, 2011.

He was born September 19, 1926 to William and Alice Lee Faught Cook in Lometa, TX.Floyd attended Lometa Public School. He was a cattle and ranch operations manager for Rayzor Investments.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 5 to 7 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 2 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. John Kay and Rev. Gary Sweatman officiating, burial to follow Friday, February 11, 2011, 1pm at Nix Cemetery in Nix, TX.

Floyd is survived by a daughter Joy Walters of Sanger, sons Everett Cook and wife Hilda, Eric Cook and wife, Marile, all of Denton; brothers, Leslie Cook and Harvey Cook both of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren Ryan and Clay Walters, Charles Cook, Cacye Cook, Rey Cook, Rachael Cook and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by son-in-law Rick Walters; sisters Gladys Ratliff and Bertha Allen; brothers William Cook, Alvin Cook and Elton Cook-Faught.



Iva Lee Duncan

Iva Lee Duncan, 104, of Denton, died Friday, February 4, 2011 at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Among her live five generations.

Mrs. Duncan was born on April 22, 1906 in Denton, TX to Omar and Charlotte (Kluck) Carlton. She was married to John O. Duncan in Durant, OK in 1923. She was a member of the Sherman Dr. Church of Christ.

The funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2011, in the chapel of Mulkey Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, TX. Weylan Deaver will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jason Green, Brent Green, Hunter Green, Montana Morgan, Leland Thomas Norman, Scotty Pope; honorary pallbearers will be Ray Henson, Landon Green, Roger Carlton, Craig Carlton, Steve Carlton, Jerry Green, Dwane Moon.

She is survived by her daughters, Novaline Kline of Denton, Christine Archerd of Winona; son, Don Duncan of Durant, OK; brother, Bill Carlton of Hartshorne, OK; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jess Carlton, Travis Carlton, Willis Carlton, and Joe Carlton.

Jewell Joseph Mathis, Jr. Jewell Joseph Mathis, Jr.

Jewell Joseph Mathis, Jr., 101, of Denton, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.

Mr. Mathis was born on December 8, 1909 in Mineral Wells, TX to Jewell Joseph and Alma (Granstaff) Mathis. He worked for Gulf Oil Corporation in Houston as Senior Auditor until his retirement in 1964, when he moved to Granbury, TX, where he lived until 1993.

He is preceded in death by wives Lois Denman Mathis and Ann Mathis. He was married to Laura Frances (Tuttle) Davis on October 8, 1983 in Dallas, TX. He graduated from Graford High School, Weatherford College and the University of Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Denton. He served on the Board of Trustees of Baylor University for six years from 1968 to 1974.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Good Samaritan Retirement Village, 2500 Hinkle, Denton, TX. A graveside service for family will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday, February 11, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Frances Mathis of Denton; son, Joel H. Mathis and his wife Ellen Mathis of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren.
