Richard Joseph Burger of Valley View, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman. Services are pending with Huff / Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point, Texas.

Muriel Edwin Henry

Muriel Edwin Henry, 85, from Denton, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 30, 2011. He was born on October 28, 1926 in Brownwood, TX to Clark M. Henry and Carrie M. (Oxley) Henry. He was a Farmers Branch police officer for 20 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and the First Baptist Church in Denton and Stoney Methodist Church. He was a Sea Man First Class in the Navy serving in WWII. He married Juanita M. Ethridge on May 27, 1946 in Mullin, TX, the love of his life.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 6-8 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. A graveside service will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, January 2, 2012 at Oakview Cemetery in Mullin, TX with Rev. Buddy Owens officiating. Pallbearers will include: Danny Ethridge, Jerry Ethridge, Steve Ethridge, Joey Ethridge, Neal Ethridge, Brent Ethridge, and Billy Ethridge. Honorary pallbearer will be Patrick Henry.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Juanita Henry; granddaughters, Brandy Gilliam and husband Jim Gilliam and Melissia Steele and husband Ja Steele; grandson, Patrick Henry; and great grandchildren, Christina Henry, Dylan Bracken, Brook Austin, Joece Henry, Jimmy Ray Gilliam Jr., Devin Robillard, Miles Steele, Mycal Daniels, and Kaylee Daniels. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arvin Neal Henry; son, Kenneth Dale Henry; and great grandson, Isaac Jason Steele.

 

William Holdren

William Holdren, 88, of Denton, TX died on December 15, 2011 in his home at The Vintage, after a short illness.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda and Diane and one son, Jim. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean and a son, John.

Bill was born on June 14, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Bill and Jean stayed in Iowa until they moved to The Vintage in Denton, TX in 2005 to be near family.

Bill was a school teacher and coach by trade, an avid bass fisherman, an accomplished artist and proudly served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

Private burial was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, December 19, 2011. A memorial service will be held for Bill at The Vintage, 205 N. Bonnie Brae, Denton, TX in the main dining room at 2:30, on Sat. January 7th.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in Bill's name.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the care and compassion shown to Bill from Dr. Mario Ruiz and staff; Joyce and Wanda from the Ray of Sunshine; Elaine, Judy and Sonya from Solaris Hospice. We also express appreciation for the people and staff at The Vintage.

Juanita Carrie Lehrman Killgore

Juanita Carrie Lehrman Killgore passed away December 16, 2011 at Alzheimer's Care and Research Center at Air Force Village II. She was born to Sam Fred Lehrman, Sr. and Stella Ruth Bennett Lehrman in Denton, Texas, on January 6, 1922. Juanita was a twin to her brother Sam Fred Lehrman, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents Sam Fred and Stella Lehrman, her twin brother Sam Fred Lehrman, Jr. and her grandson Matthew Bryant Killgore. She graduated from Denton High School in 1939 and attended North Texas State of Teachers College in Denton. Juanita met her husband in 1938 on a blind date. They were married three years later and have been married 70 years and 4 months. Juanita is survived by her husband Farrol E. Killgore, two sons, Melvyn Ray Killgore of Andover, KS and Terry Craig Killgore, Sr and wife Martha Raye. of Coker, AL, four grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

  Major Richard Frank Loose

Major Richard Frank Loose

Major Richard Frank Loose, 88, of Sanger, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Denton Regional Medical Center. Born on January 17, 1923, he married Margaret Morgan in 1982.

He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, fighting in both World War II and the Korean War, serving three years overseas and working in Missile Defense at the Pentagon. He was a bomber pilot and earned several medals and awards throughout his military career including the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star. After retiring from the military, Mr. Loose worked as a Logistics Engineer for LTV and Texas Instruments.

Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Clifford Loose and wife, Glenda of Otto, NC and Brian Loose and wife, Vickie of Sanger; stepson, Dutch Hodson and wife, Suzie of Rowlett; stepdaughter, Linda Bostic of Midlothian; brother, Rudyard (Bud) Loose of Colorado; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Frank Loose and Dorothea Loose and stepmother, Bessie Loose, and an infant son, Richard Nelson Loose.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 - 11:30 am Tuesday, January 3, 2012 with a memorial service - including full military honors - starting at 11:30 am in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Interment will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

 

Margaret Ann Sands

Margaret Ann Sands, 90, of Denton, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011. She was born on January 24, 1921 in Arkansas to James E. Higgs and Nina C. (Kerr) Higgs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Ann's Haven Hospice, and Seniors in Motion. She married Thomas Hugh Sands in 1945, he preceded her in death in 2007.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Cole Chapel with Rev. Lisa Marshall officiating.

Margaret is survived by her brother, Jimmy Sands; sister-in-law, Gloria Gentry; brother-in-law, Richard Sands; and many beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Keith Eugene Shaeffer

Keith Eugene Shaeffer age 87 of Denton died Saturday December 31, 2011. He was born August 9, 1924 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania to Raymond E. and Dorothy M. (Courtright) Shaeffer. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served aboard destroyers during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Sonar/Radar Operator. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he entered the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in September 1949 with a B.S. in Psychology. A 36 year career in Sales and Sales Management followed his college graduation.

Keith was an avid golfer and member of the Denton Country Club for 42 years. For the last 24 years he was a fixture at the North Lakes Recreation Center Gym (twice a day come rain or shine) where he was known as "Pops" and became a fitness inspiration to both young and old. The First United Methodist Church in Denton was his place of worship since moving to Denton in 1969. He was married to Monte Lou (Foltz) Shaeffer for 54 years until her death in February 2001.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 6-8 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Merle Bolte officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan L. Shaeffer; two grandchildren, Lindsey R. Miller and husband Russell, and Zachary S. Gorton; and one great-grandchild, Addison Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any medical research project of your choice or North Lakes Recreation Center (his second home). The family wishes to thank Keith's many friends for their support and visits over the past two months. He was loved and will be missed by everyone.
