Marian Knesek, age 67 of Denton passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012 of ovarian cancer.She was born on May 13, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Marion and Rosalie Smith. Marian grew up in Galveston, TX and graduated from Ursuline Academy and Sam Houston State University. It was there that she met her college sweetheart, John Knesek.They married during the middle of her senior year in college. She also did graduate work at Eastern Washington State College as well as Texas Woman’s University.

Their son Kevin was born in Pullman, Washington during their years in Washington state while John attended graduate school. Upon his graduation, they moved to Houston for twelve years where their daughter Kelly was born.Marian was a sixth grade teacher for the Aldine School District in Houston. A fifth grade teacher in Prosser, Washington and a sixth grade teacher for the Denton School District. Upon her retirement, Marian began volunteering once a week at what is now Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.She once belonged to the American Association of University Women.

Marian currently was a member of the Denton Area Retired School Personnel. Her book entitled Zane and the Armadillo is being published now. She wrote Sage and the Peacock last year.She also belonged to the TWU University Club as well as the TWU Faculty Gourmet Dinner Group. Marian enjoyed traveling with her husband to various states in the United States and to European and Asian countries as well. Cruises were also enjoyed by the two of them in addition to concerts and plays and dancing at the senior center. 

She was preceded in death by her son Kevin, and is survived by her husband John, her daughter Kelly and son-in-law Rusty, and grandchildren Sage and Zane of Sherman, TX and other extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kevin Knesek Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 997, Somerville, TX 77879.
