David Norman Poinier died on June 3, 2012in Denton, TX. Dave had resided in Krugerville, TX since 2006. He is survived by Ann Savage Poinier, his wife of 50 years; Daughter Carol Poinier of Lewisville, TX; son Stephen Poinier of Corinth, TX; daughter Catherine Poinier Nogueira and husband Carlos H. Nogueira and two granddaughters, Emily and Lauren Nogueira of Ardmore,OK.
David was born at the Presidio of San Francisco, CA on Nov. 13, L937. His parents were Norman Edwin Poinier and Helen Carroll Poinier. Norman was a career Army officer and David lived all over the U.S. as well as the Philippines, Brazil and Portugal while growing up. David graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in Jan. L962 and later earned a MS degree from Auburn University.
Dave entered the Army from ROTC at UT. After 2 years active duty, Dave was given a regular commission and served for 22 years as an officer. During his Army career, he served two tours in Vietnam, a tour as a Military observer for the Organization of American States in 1959 during the Soccer War, and a tour in the Panama Canal Zone as well as assignments all over the U.S. He retired as Provost Marshall, Ft. Sam Houston. He served in the Military Police, lnfantry,Armor, and spent three years in the Special Forces. His decorations include two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, three Army Commendation Medals and the Parachute Badge. Foreign decorations include the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Cross of Gallantry w/Bronze Star, Honor Medal 1't Class and the Staff Service Medal.
A private graveside service was held at Mission Park North Cemetery, San Antonio, TX on June 13, 2012.
