Laura Katherine Dupree Pickens Of Cedar Hill, Tx. born January 30, 1927 at 12:10 pmon a Sunday, on Sonora Street in the Lisbon section of Dallas, Tx. to John C. Dupree and Mattie M. Mayfield.
At 4 years old, her family moved to a Farm in Denton County. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church, Double Oak School in Bartonville, Tx. and High School at North Texas in Denton.
After graduation she returned to Dallas to live and work. She was married to Hugh Mernice Pickens on November 3, 1953 and was blessed with a son, Robby Douglas Pickens and a step-daughter Madelynne Faye Hughes. They moved to Cedar Hill, Texas in 1970.
She was employed by Members Mutual Insurance, an affiliate of the Texas Credit Union League for 21 years and she retired in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Mernice Pickens, her parents John and Mattie Dupree, sisters Bennie Darlington, Mozelle Stringfellow, Helen Meaders Barnett, Laverne Sams and Glendola Beasley and brothers James Dupree and Clinton Dupree.
She is survived by sisters Anita Rainy, Maxine and husband Wayne Calvert, and Bobbie and husband Jay Lowry, Son Robby D. Pickens of Cedar Hill, Tx. Daughter Madelynne and husband Sam Hughes of Mineola, Tx. Also Survived by grand children Chris and Laura Swaner, Susan and Bill Bala, great grand children Caleb, Amy, and Tanner Swaner, Amanda Tanton, April Shadowski, and many great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
