David Patrick Spencer was born on August 15, 1983 to David A. and Pat Spencer.
David was born in El Paso where he shared his life with friends and family. He attended Burges High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society and participated in the Academic Decathlon. He was a cadet in ROTC for four years and graduated in the top ten of his class in 2001. He served with the United States Army as an Airborne Infantryman with the 173rd Airborne Division and receivedvarious medals including the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge with Bronze Star and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He went on to serve in the Horn of Africa under the Combined Joint Task Force and received additionalcommendations including the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Joint Service AchievementMedal for Meritorious Service for the Armed Forces of the United States. He returned home to Denton, Texas, in 2007 where he attended the University of North Texas and received a BA in English-Linguistics in 2011.
David died peacefully in his sleep at home on July 8, 2012. He is survived by his father David Allynn Spencer and his mother Pat Spencer from Denton, Texas, brothers Jerrome David Spencer from El Paso, Texas, and Keith Allynn Spencer from Providence, Rhode Island, his aunt, Sherry Cunningham, from Marshfield, Missouri, and uncles, Ben Nava and Hector Nava from El Paso, Texas. David was loved and cherished by his school mates, colleagues, childhood friends and all the soldiers who served with him. He will be missed. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 14, at First Trinity Church of theNazarene at 2520 Silver, El Paso, Texas at 10 a.m.. Burial services will be on Monday, July 16 at 11 a.m at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
