Brian Stephen Isbell, age 37, recently of Baltimore, Maryland passed away June 23rd, 2012 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was born March 22nd, 1975 at Flow Memorial Hospital in Denton, Texas. After spending much of his youth and elementary school years in Denton he moved to Bedford, Texas where he graduated from L.D. Bell High School. He was a member of the L.D. Bell Band drum line where he made many lifelong friends. He became an Eagle Scout and subsequently obtained a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Computer Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. Brian had a wide variety of interests. He was a certified PADI Scuba Divemaster and Instructor, an adept water and snow skier and a brilliant drummer. Brian was a skilled magician and sleight-of-hand artist, frequently eliciting laughter and amazement from his nieces and nephews with every performance. In recent years his major passion was salsa dancing, through which he met his loving wife.
Brian is survived by his wife, Uliana Biryukova-Isbell; his mother Ms. Erin Isbell; brother and sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Scott and Emily Isbell and nephews Brandon and Elijah Isbell, all of Baltimore, Maryland; his elder brother and sister-in-law Drs. James and Rebecca Isbell and nieces Lauren, Emily, and Madeline Isbell of Charlottesville, Virginia; his brother Mr. Brett Isbell of New York City, New York; his father and stepmother Dr. & Mrs. Phillip and Kim Isbell and half brother and sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Nicholas and Haley Isbell of Denton, Texas.
A memorial service was held on July 3rd, 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland and a service for his Texas family and friends will be held at 2 PM on July 21st, 2012 at the Old Bedford School, 2400 School Lane, Bedford, Texas 76021.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Brian S. Isbell Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is established to honor a graduating L.D. Bell Band member whose excellence in character, the classroom, and the band practice field reflect Brian’s legacy. Contributions may be made by check made out to L.D.
