Johnny Lee Akins, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at his home in Denton. He was born October 26, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas to Lonnie G. and Christine (Cox) Akins. Johnny was a graduate of Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served in the United States Marines and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Johnny had worked for Moore Business Forms in Denton. He was also an automotive specialist and did state inspections with his long-time friend, Jim Nomile. He had been a resident of Denton for over forty years.

Funeral services for Mr. Akins are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 15th at Meador-Clement-Keel Chapel with David Gray, Pastor of Hillcrest Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.Visitation will be 11:00 - 12:00 Saturday before the service. 

Survivors of Johnny Lee Akins include his mother, Christine Akins of Denton; sister, Darlene Dawson of Katy; niece, Jennifer Hodges and husband Britt of Carrollton; great-nephews, Ryan and Ethan Hodges of Carrollton and friend, Jim Nomile. He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Akins.
