Rufus M. (Buddy Lewis, 71, long time resident of Little Elm, Texas went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.M. and Ferne Lewis, and great grandchild, Sean Walker Stephens-Couch.
Buddy will always be remembered as a Christian man that loved the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, and a man that never met a stranger.
Buddy retired after 28 years from Collins Radio/Rockwell International/Alcatel. He was also instrumental in bringing youth soccer to Little Elm, as well as being coach of the undefeated Jack Rabbits.
His love for animals started with a pet alligator, skunks, and then graduated to horses and became a rescuer of squirrels.
He is survived by Beatrice Byrd Lewis, wife of 49 years, daughter Lori Stephens and husband Eddie of Aubrey, Tx, son Brent Lewis and wife Karen of Little Elm, Tx,son Trent Lewis of Little Elm, Tx, sister Nancy Knapp of Denison, Tx, and sister Judy Elms and husband Danny of Irving, Tx.
Buddy enjoyed his 9 grandkids, Courtney Baugus, Cassi Wheat, Jacob Lewis, Hailey Lewis, Kasey Hamilton, Gunner Lewis, Derek Lewis, Scott Stephens and Jennifer Stephens, as well as his 5 Great Grand Kids, Nathan Stephens, Skylar Plumlee, Lane Wheat, Owen Baugus and Summer Wheat.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 at the Slay Memorial Funeral Center. The funeral service will be Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00am at the LifeGate Church in Denton. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to LifeGate Church, 3350 Deerwood Parkway, Denton, Tx 76208 in memory of Buddy Lewis.
Services are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey.
