Courtney James Hanson, 64, of Denton, TX and Johnson Lake, NE passed away Sunday, November 25,2012 after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Courtney was born in Plainview, NE on November 13, 1948. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1966 and joined the Navy where he served as an air traffic controller during Vietnam. Courtney worked in the steel business for 30 years, holding multiple patents in his trade. He most recently retired from Nucon Steel of Denton, TX, where he was a Marketing and Product Development Manager. Courtney married wife, Sue Hanson in 1979 and they had one son, Tyler Hanson. Prior to his death, Courtney was able to meet and love his first grandchild, Harper who is 3 months old. Courtney enjoyed driving and restoring classic cars, gardening, fly fishing, woodworking, and spending time at his lake house at Johnson Lake, NE. He will be remembered for his big heart, strong work ethic, love for his family and friends, and always reminding everyone “life is good.” He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Neal and Mary Hanson. He is survived by: wife, Sue Hanson, son, Tyler and his wife, Ashley, granddaughter, Harper of Dallas and sister Linda Stoll of Grinnell, Iowa. Services will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ 2810 W. 7 Street, Hastings, NE on December 8 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Friends of Barnabas Foundation (www.fobf.org).
