Dorothy Vetrice Jones, age 96, of Pilot Point passed away January 7, 2013 at Pilot Point Care Center.

She was born December 8, 1916 just west of Pilot Point in the Oakdale community to Oscar Leon Hester and Gussie Adline King Hester.She attended school at Oakdale and Fairview, later moving to the Vaughantown area and finishing school at Prairie Chapel near Elm Creek between Pilot Point and Sanger.On June 17, 1933, she married Benjamin Fred “Jake” Jones in Denton, Texas.During the depression they resided in Fort Worth and she was able to find work at a bakery, where sugar and flour were scarce.She commented that nothing was wasted, and they would walk everywhere they could in order to save their gas coupons.

Moving back to the Pilot Point area they were later blessed with two sons, Alford Fred and Roland Lane.Numerous times she said she was happiest when her family was around her.She loved her grands, greats, and great-great grandbabies dearly and made sure every one of them had a quilt that she hand made.Up until two weeks ago, she was making a baby quilt for her newest great-grandbaby.She enjoyed quilting and until four years ago, you could find her every Wednesday at Mountain Springs with all the quilts. 

Dorothy worked hard all her life and never complained.She was always full of life and had that special way of showing love and kindness to everyone she knew.In her early years, she worked in the fields picking and hoeing cotton and helped operate the dairy.She loved gardening and canning and made wonderful pies.

She retired from Russell-Newman Mfg. Co. in Pilot Point after many years of service.She and her husband were both life time members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.After selling their home to the Corp of Engineers, they moved to Pilot Point and were current members of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of WMU and the Roadrunners.She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 1027 in Sanger.

She is survived by her son, Roland Jones and wife, Jeanette of Pilot Point, a daughter-in-law, Annette Jones of Irving; four grandchildren, Debra Caldwell and husband, Larry of Sanger, Mark Jones of Irving, Retired Navy Senior Chief Keith Jones and wife, Danielle of Virginia Beach, Kristi Scholl and husband, Luke of Valley View; six great-grandchildren, Candi Bolivar and husband, Shay, Justin Jones, Samantha Jones, Christopher Jones, Riley Scholl and Kennedy Scholl; and two great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Rutledge and Gauge Bolivar, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and quilting friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Jones; a son, Alford Jones and two brothers, William Steven Hester and Navy Master Chief, Raymond Paul Hester.

 A visitation was held at Coker Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Services will be held at the Calvary Baptist church in Pilot Point at 10:30 am this morning, January 9, 2013 with Dickie Amyx officiating.Burial will be in Tyson Cemetery.
