Joseph Emanuel Horn was born on May 6, 1912 in Indiana and passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013. He moved to Dallas, TX when he was two months old. He was a resident of the Dallas area until 1977 when he married Carole Horn and they made their home in Denton, TX.

In 1935, He married Anne Edwards and they raised sons, Jim, John, and Joe Horn. During WWII, he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Knoxville, TN, Los Alamos, NM in the development of the Atomic Bomb. He then moved back to Dallas and worked for the local Plumber and Steamfitters Union 100 for 50 years.

He was an avid train fan and rode the rails to Chicago, Wolf Point, Montana, Arizona, and most of Texas all after age 75.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carole; his sons, Jim Horn and wife Mary of Sanger, John Horn of Montague, and Joe Horn of Dallas; Carole’s daughters, Amy Thorpe of Denton and Allie Dunkle of Tennessee; grandchildren, Ryan Whisenant, Justin and Becca Dunkle, Jennifer Stevens, Major Jim Horn, Judd Horn, and Jodi Horn; 5 great grandchildren; his sisters, Enid Fehmel, Jackie Palmer, Bunny McGuire, and Betsy Zern.He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Beatrice Horn; and his beloved brother, David L. Horn.

Joseph was very close to his young sister-in-law, Kelli Whisenhunt and her husband Rick (his best buddy) and their sons, Claude and Kirk.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 4-6 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors.The celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Daily Bread, 300 West Oak Street #100, Denton, TX 76201.
