Elizabeth Hazelett Gunn Schober, 96, most recently of Decatur, TX, formerly of Denton and Fort Worth, passed away on January 11, 2013. She was born September 21, 1916, to Walter and Juliet Fischer Gunn in Aurora, IL. In 1941, she married Robert Hibbard Schober in Wheaton, IL. He predeceased her in 1971.
She attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and worked as an insurance underwriter and as a title insurance examiner. She was a life-long scholar, continually learning new things and always willing to share her knowledge. She was an avid genealogist, publishing a history of one of her family lines in 2004, The Life and Times of Conrad Fischer.
While living in Fort Worth, Elizabeth was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent of the Six Flags Chapter, Fort Worth Genealogical Society, and was for many years a docent at Amon CarterMuseum.
Elizabeth is survived by daughters and their husbands, Janet and Lonnie Minke of Boyd, TX and Candace and William Greene of Alexandria, VA; sisters, Jeanne Gunn Rousseau of Weatherford, TX and Sally Gunn Jackson of Avondale, AZ ; grandchildren, Jennifer Minke, of Kingsville, TX and Emily Greene of Brooklyn, NY; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the wonderful staff at Governor’s Ridge Assisted Living in Decatur for taking such good care of Mom.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
