James “Alvin” McConnell

Alvin McConnell was born January 6, 1951 to James Ward and Evelyn McConnell in Grayson county Texas. At age 6, the McConnell family moved to Savoy, TX where Alvin attended elementary and Jr. High School. In 8th grade, he was voted ‘most popular’ by his classmates. He graduated Savoy High School in 1970.

After high school Alvin began working as an air conditioning sheet metal worker. He continued working in that field for over 40 years. While he excelled in many areas including welding and fencing his true passion was ranching and breaking and training horses.

Alvin married in 1986 to Chelle McConnell who had a son Brandon ‘Buck’ Galbraith. They resided on a ranch in Denton until they purchased their ranch in Tioga in 1995.Alvin continued to live and work on their Tioga Ranch until his death.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son Buck Galbraith of Corinth, TX; three sisters, Betty Baron, Lewisville, Ann Ooten, Cartwright, OK and Jean McConnell, Omaha, NE; one brother Richard McConnell, Denison, TX; three nieces and three nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Huff/Slay Chapel in Pilot Point, beginning at 11:00 am.

Known for being a man of few words, on behalf of Alvin the family would like to extend a sincere appreciation for all the visits, phone calls and friendship extended to him throughout the past months during his illness.

Services are under the direction of Terri Slay and Huff/Slay Funeral Home.
