Charlie Beatrice (Bea) Wallis Torneo, 86 of Denton, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in Tyler, TX.

She was born September 17, 1926 in Denton, to Charlie Edward and Clara Drue (Baker) Wallis. She was the fifth girl born and was named after her father. Bea was a member of the Pioneer Baker Family. Her great great grandmother, Melvina Dolye Baker helped to settle the Flower Mound community and homesteaded 192 acres in 1847. All of her school years were spent on the campus of North Texas State Teachers College, what is now known as The University of North Texas. She attended school there from 1st through 11th grade in the old demonstration school building. She graduated 11th in 1943 at North Texas High School. She joined the local U.S.O. Group. On Friday nights, she attended dances at Camp Howze in Gainesville, Texas, where she met her husband, Vincent (Tony) Torneo. They were married May 6, 1945. They were just shy of celebrating their 25th year anniversary when her husband passed away on April 24, 1970.

Bea lived in Denton most of her life. She retired after working for J C Penny for 25 years, after which, she worked for almost ten years “At Your Service,” where she cared for the elderly. Bea was a member of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of many years. In 1974 she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served several years as a single adult representative and worked in the church library. Her family and church were her first priority in her life. In her spare time she loved to sew and decorate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Torneo, daughter, Carol Anita Torneo, son Donnie Torneo, grandson, Eric Wilkerson, and four sisters, Addie Mae Hundley, Wilma Faye Mulkey, Marie Shelton, and Clara Wilson. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Whatley and husband Tommy of Mt. Pleasant, son Joey Torneo of Denton, Grandchildren, Gina Irvin, and Kellie Messer of Mt. Pleasant, Tony Torneo of Denton, Step grandsons, Jeff Whatley and wife Carrie, and Steven Whatley of Mt. Pleasant, six Great grandchildren, Colton Wilkerson, Eric Montgomery, Will Montgomery, Davin Whatley , Kayla Hayden and Hayden Messer, of Mt. Pleasant, and Hayden Torneo of Denton; and several nieces and nephews.

 A visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton with a funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 23, 2013 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1801 Malone Street Denton, Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
