Jacqueline Wollan Gibbons, 73 passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at her home in Denton, in the presence of her family.
Jackie was born on June 27, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Laurin A. and Louise F. Wollan and grew up in Springfield, Illinois, where she graduated from Springfield High School, followed by degrees from Wellesley College and Harvard University.
Jackie was a writer, poet, musician, teacher and reformer, whose goal was to reduce anger and fear and to increase love. She served her family, church and community in various capacities, including the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Denton Bach Society, Friends of the Family, Texas Master Naturalists, and Meals on Wheels.
Jackie's teaching career spanned early grades through college, including positions at Newton H.S. in MA, the Westlake School of Los Angeles, CA, the Selwyn School in Denton, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of North Texas in Denton.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Henry Gibbons IV of Denton; two sons with spouses and children, Henry Sanford and Jennifer Gibbons and grandson Henry Gibbons V of Halethorpe, MD, and Jonathan Frederick and Kelly Gibbons and grandson Frederick Johannes Boyd Gibbons of Keller, TX; brothers Laurin A. Wollan Jr. of Richmond, VA, Dennis E. Wollan of Los Angeles, CA, and Otis Wollan of Colfax, CA; and her sister, Penny Wollan-Kriel of Springfield, IL.
Plans for a memorial service in several weeks time are pending.
