Lorna Owens Francis, age 81, of Castroville, passed away Apr. 9, 2013 at home. She was born June 30, 1931 in McAllen, TX to Frith Craven Owens and Helen Birkner Owens. Lorna graduated with an Eyes of Texas Scholarship from the University of Texas, Austin, earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 1963. Lorna received her Masters in Fine Arts from UT Austin in 1965. Lorna taught art at UT Austin from 1965 - 1966, also at University North Texas and TWU in Denton from 1966 to 1976. Lorna also taught at San Antonio College, St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio, OLLU, Laredo Community College, ceramics with NISD Continuing Education and in her studio in Castroville.

Lorna married Frank W. Francis on Oct. 26, 1968 in Denton, TX. In 1983 she and her husband purchased and restored the historical 1846 Wieser House in Castroville and converted the barn into an art studio. Lorna was very talented and made many pen and ink drawings of the many historic buildings and homes in Castroville.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Sheaffers Bath; brothers, Henry Owens, M.D., and Frith Owens, Jr. and sister, Rose White. Survivors include her husband, Frank W. Francis of Castroville; sons and their spouses, Vikram (Belinda) Bath and Dylan (Denise) Bath; grandchildren, Lorna Elizabeth Bath, Ravinder Bath, Cameron Bath, Colwyn Bath; siblings, Alan (Donna) Owens of Austin, Garth Owens of Austin, Betsy (Chat) Wilkinson of Georgetown and Helen Olson of Sacramento, CA; numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Apr. 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville, TX.
