Rodney Alan Southard (Rod), loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and educator went to be with the Lord June 23, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.

Rod was born on November 20, 1960 in Arlington, Texas to Charles and Betty Southard. He married the love of his life Jami Payne July 19, 1997 in Denton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.

Rod is a graduate of Valley View High School. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of North Texas and his Master's Degree in Education Administration from Texas Woman's University. His educational career encompassed a lifetime of teaching, coaching, and administration in Gainesville, Lake Dallas, and Denton. He was a teacher and coach in Gainesville, then worked as a middle and elementary school principal for Lake Dallas and Denton ISD until he retired in May 2011. He was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his students, and was not only an educator to many, but a friend and mentor to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Jami Southard and their two sons, J.C. and Jaxson, all of Corinth, his daughters, Morgan McClure (husband Tim) and Madison Mikael (husband Cameron). He is also survived by his mother Betty Southard of Aubrey, two brothers; Alan (wife Casey) and Scotty (wife Kristi) and numerous aunts, uncles and friends

A service in Celebration of Rod's Life is planned for Thursday, June 27th at 3:30 pm at Lifegate Church in Denton, 3350 Deerwood Parkway.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Southard Children's Education Fund at Inwood National Bank, 2220 San Jacinto Blvd, Denton Texas 76205, Donate Life Texas, 5489 Blair Road, Dallas Texas 75231, or the charity of your choice.
