Ruby Muriel Brown, 91, of Shady Shores, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Denton Rehabilitation Center, Denton, Texas. She was born September 21, 1921 in Lebanon, Texas to Juan Joseph and Sarah Laverne (Bradley) Fipps. She attended rural schools and was a member of the Methodist Church. On October 12, 1935, in Denton, Texas, she married Chester Leon "Farmer" Brown, who died March 4, 1998. Muriel worked for Russell Newman for several years before managing the Montgomery Ward store in Denton and retiring to help her husband run the family nursery in Shady Shores, Tex. Her hobbies were quilting, beadwork, crochet, canning jellies and preserves, and baking treats to share with many friends. She was active in serving in Shady Shores municipal activities and in providing "comfort hearts" for breast cancer survivors.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; by a sister, Emarene Alley; and by brothers Arthur Fipps, Ray Fipps, Tom Fipps, and Robert Vernon Kiger. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Sue (Arthur Richard) Koch of Wayland, Mich., and a son, Leon Franklin (Laura Ann)Brown of Shady Shores, Tex; grandchildren Creighton (Elizabeth) Brown, of Arlington, Tex., Joseph Brown of Denton, Tex., Jennifer (Michael) Black of Hyattstown, Md., and Aurora Koch, of Bronx, New York; and great-grandchildren Shelby Brown, Blaine Brown, and Alice Black.

A Graveside funeral service was held at 10 A.M.Friday July 12, 2013 at the Shiloh Cemetery in Corinth, with Rev. Sam Redfearn officiating.
