Joan Roselyn Johnson went to be with her Lord on September 16, 2013 in Denton, Texas following a long battle with Cerebellar Ataxia.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 30, 1930 to Thomas and Althea Zappa. She graduated from Marshall High in Minneapolis and soon entered the US Army Air Corps. There she met and married James Kline. After several military moves they settled in Fort Wayne, IN. She started working for the Defense Logistics Agency from which she retired in 1993.

In 1981 she married David A. Johnson. They lived in the Chicago area until his retirement in 1995. The following year they moved to Denton, TX.

She is mourned by her husband and by her son, William Kline of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Jerri ValVerde-Engler of Key West, FL; sister, Mary Lueders of Smithville, TX; brother, Edward Zappa of Del Valle, TX; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She will be interred in the Ft. Snelling Military Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Memorials may be made to The Christian Appalachian Project or to the First United Methodist Church of Denton, TX.
