Funeral services for Ralph Dale Gibson, 78, will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Southwest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Taylor. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with honors provided by members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Ralph was born December 9, 1934, at Dallas, to the late Ralph Harrison Gibson and Letha Lee McKiddy Gibson. He graduated from Mesquite High School and then began a career that started by serving his country when he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Ribbon, the Korean Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Ralph continued his career of service and entered the law enforcement field; first with the Ardmore Police Department and then the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, retiring with 21 years of service. He also worked at Lake Murray State Park as a Lake Patrolman and for the past 10 years had been a security guard at First National Bank and Trust in Ardmore. His service to country, state and community spanned over 35 years.
He and Lavera L. Canada were married January 7, 1985; they had celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary this past January.
Following a brief illness, Ralph died in the local hospital at Ardmore, September 21, 2013, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 12 days.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Lavera of the home in Ardmore; sister Wanda L. Gibson of Denton: two daughters, Karen Sue Inselman and her husband, Terry of Ardmore and Jeannie Dale Rapier and her husband, David of Ringling; two sons, Larry Dean Gibson and his wife, Patty of Ardmore and Mark Allan Gibson, Virginia Beach, Va.; the mother of his children, Neta Gibson; also stepsons, Calvin Ray Mackey and his wife, Kathy and Alva Rue Mackey and his wife, Karla; and a stepdaughter, Vera Ann Mackey; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
