Born on March 9, 1923 in Denton, Texas, Elinor Irene Woods King was the fourth of eleven children born to W.E. and Alberta Woods. She transitioned from her life on earth at 90 years old on September 12, 2013.

Harve D. King and Elinor were married on New Year's Eve 1941 and she remained his devoted wife for 68 years until Harve's death on January 26, 2010. To their union was born one son, Michael Leland King, who preceded her in death on June 9, 2009.

Elinor attended Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, TX and completed her Bachelors degree at Texas College in Tyler, TX. She received her Masters degree in Education from Prairie View A&M. She was a career educator who taught school in Smithville ISD and Blackshear Elementary School in Austin ISD. She retired as a counselor at Frank Borman Elementary and Robert E. Lee Elementary Schools in Denton ISD.

Her affiliations included Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Intellectual Advancement Club, and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Denton, TX.

She is survived by her grandson, Jarrett Ian King and daughter-in-law Brenda Fennell King of Austin, her two sisters, Vora Crutchfield of Grand Prairie, TX and Ethel Gray (Brucy) of Dallas, TX , Mildred Brown, her caretaker and friend, nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Cedar View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their compassionate care during Elinor's residence at their facility.
