Joan Elaine Lewis, 90, of Denton, Texas, passed away on October 5, 2013, in Corinth, Texas, after a series of health issues. Joan was born March 20, 1923 in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma. Joan was the eleventh of twelve children of John and Sarah Somerhalder Schupbach. Joan attended all 12 years in Burlington, Oklahoma School. Joan married Delmar Lamont Lewis on February 28th, 1942 in Tempe, Arizona while Delmar was serving as an aviator in WWII. After the war they settled in Barber County, Kansas on a farm/ranch north of Hazelton, Kansas. In 1963 they moved to Denton, Texas where they started and ran several local businesses. Joan was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
Joan was a great homemaker and was very focused on the well being of family. Holidays where great events at her house. She spent a year in Wichita, Kansas helping her sister Opal and three years in Kiowa, Kansas helping her sister Marie in her later years.
Delmar preceded her in death on November 8, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Anna Hart, Elizabeth Horning, Lois Talbott, Marie Alder Opal Ramsdell Smith and Silvia Lewis; brothers: Fred Schupbach Jr., Laurence Schupbach, Edwin Schupbach, Reuben Schupbach and Harry Schupbach.
Joan is survived by her children: Roger Lewis and wife Jan, Denton, TX, Janet Yount, Fort Worth, TX, and Mike Lewis, Euless, Texas, Six grandchildren: Todd Lewis and wife Melanie, Amy Cole and husband Jason, Joanne Yount Wisdom and husband John, Katheryn Yount, Tyler Lewis and Jake Lewis, Five great grand children: Brooklyn Lewis, Abigail Lewis, Hunter Lewis, Meredith Cole and Mason Cole.
Family Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 68 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa, Kansas.
