Dr. Oren Irion, MD

Dr. Oren Irion, MD, 89, of Denton, TX passed away peacefully on Wednesday Oct. 23, 2013. Born in Enid, OK on April 20, 1924, to Fred and Glenna Irion, he lived most of his life in Texas. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan.

He attended Dartmouth, and graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Colorado in 1948. Oren served four years in the US Navy, and was both a WWII and Korea veteran. He then worked in the Panama Canal Zone at Coco Solo Hospital, at Kaiser Permanente in Dallas, and at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches.

While very accomplished in his career, family was always most important. Oren married the love of his life, Emma Marie Zanetti in May of 1951. Oren was proud of their three sons and two daughters. He is survived by his wife, children Brandt Irion and his wife Mareye Bullock and step-grandson Kyle Yeates, Eric Irion, Leif Irion, Maria Irion, Lara Heisler and her husband Thomas and children Olivia and Emma, sisters Zoie McClendon and Joellyn Glenn, Joellyn's husband John, brother-in-law R.W. Felix, their God child Benjamin Moore, as well as six nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vesta Felix.

Oren loved to travel, and capped his experience with a safari in Botswana. He kept a sailboat for many years, and enjoyed his time on the ocean. He enjoyed golfing, bird watching, and was also an avid Bridge player.
