Vera Lydia Duesman

Vera Duesman, 95, of Pilot Point, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013, in her home. Vera was born June 14, 1918, in Pilot Point, TX to Louis and Catherine (Sloan) Tschoepe. She married Albert Frank Duesman on June 11, 1938, in Pilot Point and moved to their farm east of Pilot Point, where they built a home and raised a family of eight, seven sons and one daughter.

Vera loved to cook large meals for her family and friends and was locally famous for her cinnamon rolls. She took great pride in her vegetable and flower garden, tending to it well into her nineties. She was raised in a family of fierce domino competitors and passed that on to her offspring. She loved to travel and her travels took her to many exotic places.

As a lifelong member of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, she was active in the choir, Altar Society, and Parish Council. Vera led the Rosary every Sunday morning for many years and provided the altar flowers for the church from her own garden.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses: Msgr. Leon Duesman, Msgr. Jerry Duesman, Dennis and Mildred Duesman, Milton and Joyce Duesman, Jeff and Kathy Duesman--all of Pilot Point; Kevin and Liz Duesman of Boise, ID, daughter-in-law Lisa Duesman of Denton, Eunice and Ron Talley of Grand Prairie; one sister, Bertha Holley of McKinney; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one son, Tommy Duesman; four brothers, Paul Tschoepe, John Tschoepe, Bishop Thomas Tschoepe, George Tschoepe; three sisters, Clair Simmel, Mary Tschoepe, Nettie Ross.

A wake service will be held starting at 6:30PM, Friday, November 29, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Pilot Point, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, November 30, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery.
