B.R. (Barney) McAfee went home to be with the Lord on the 22nd of January 2014. Barney, or "Mac", as most of his loved ones and friends called him, was known to be one of the happiest and most optimistic individuals. Barney was born on June 19, 1922 to Roy and Mattie Mae McAfee in Krum, Texas. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael (Mike) at age 21. Those 21 years he and Tillie recall as the best years of their lives. He is also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George, Beatrice, Ray, Clyde, and Roy McAfee.
The highlight of Barney's very successful life is his wife Tillie. He courted Tillie from the time she was an early teenager until he came home to marry her before shipping out during World War II.
After high school, Barney and other Sanger friends went to San Diego, California, to work in the aircraft industry and go to college. This was cut short by World War II when he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps where he served as a flight engineer on B-24's.
After World War II, Barney was engaged in numerous entrepreneurial endeavors, including retail, trucking, farming, and other businesses. He is best remembered for organizing and building McAfee Butane Company, and then later his large real estate developments with his longtime friend Gerald Stockard. He was always known for making any project undertaken successful and being able to build anything. His many talents just couldn't be measured.
With always an adventurous spirit, Barney and Tillie spent much of their time traveling and experiencing the many wonders of the world.
Barney is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Tillie, a nephew, Jimmy Smith and wife Gwen, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Spencer and Kathi Hicks, Donald and Linda Masten, and several nieces and nephews.
Barney will be missed by not only his family but the many friends that he made during this life's journey.
