Robert "Bob" Tracy McGee, a resident of Denton for over 40 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 18, 2014, at the age of 87. Bob was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, on January 25, 1927, the youngest son of Harry and Pelina McGee. He proudly served his country in World War II, where he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, an experience that kindled a lifelong love of the history of Western Civilization. He attended college at the University of Cincinnati and arrived in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to teach high school history in 1952. There he met the love of his life, Mary Janet Sheehan, and they married on March 31, 1955. Bob obtained his PhD by attending summer school at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley and thereafter began a career in education administration that spanned over 30 years and culminated with his retirement as the DISD Superintendent of Schools in 1990. Thereafter, he enjoyed time practicing his strong faith, spending time with his family, traveling, reading, gardening, cooking, playing the piano and organ, volunteering in his community, and enjoying the many blessings bestowed upon him in his long and enriched life.

Bob was fortunate to have had many mentors in his life and was much loved. But he, too, was a mentor and friend to many people. More importantly, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and faithful servant of his Lord. It was as important to him to share his faith as it was to practice it, and he touched many lives as a result. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Janet Sheehan McGee, daughter Tracy Jenks (Sky), son Tim, and his cherished granddaughters, Abby Claire McGee and Sarah Elise McGee. Abby and Sarah were among his greatest blessings in his later years and he was grateful to have lived to see them become wonderful young ladies.

A Memorial Requiem Mass will be celebrated in thanksgiving of Bob's life on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Saint David of Wales, 623 Ector Street, Denton, Texas 76201, with the Reverend Canon H.W. Herrmann, SSC, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the St. David's Memorial Fund at the address listed above.

DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of Bob's funeral arrangements.
