Mildred Marie Jenkins, 75, of Argyle, Texas, passed away on March 26, 2014, in Denton, Texas.

Mildred was born in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, on May 5, 1938, to Dewitt and Nellie Brasher. She was raised by her grandparents, Edwin and Armadilla Booth. Mildred graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. She was an educator in public schools in Basile, LA, Kinder, LA, Brownwood, TX, and Westlake, LA.

Mildred married Willie Jenkins on April 4, 1958, in Alexandria, LA, and was a member of Southmont Baptist Church in Denton.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Willie Jenkins of Argyle; son, Ed Jenkins and wife Aliya of New York, New York; daughter, Cynthia Burkett and husband, Ed of Argyle; brothers, Gerald Brasher of Houston, Texas, and David Brasher of Marshall, Texas; sister, Louise Boone of Bossier City, LA.; grandchildren, Amelia Jenkins of Southlake, Texas, Jasper Jenkins of Boston, MA, Cullen Burkett of San Angelo, TX, Claire Burkett of Argyle, and Adlai Jenkins of New York, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents; brothers, Teddy Brasher, Bo Brasher, Roy Brasher; and sister, Bobbie Olivia.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation in Basile, Louisiana, at Quirk and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Basile, LA. Interment will follow at Basile Protestant Cemetery in Basile.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Denton Mission or a charity of your choice.
