Elizabeth Jean Gordon Slay

Jean Slay, 82, of Pilot Point, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Pilot Point, TX. Jean was born to Hewitt and Willie Irene "Dear" (Hester) Gordon on May 26, 1931, in Cruger, MS.

Jean was a loyal member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point where she cooked and served many Wednesday night meals and was active in WMU. Her love of cooking was shared throughout the community. Jean was a previous owner of Huff/Slay Funeral Home, the perfect homemaker, an EMT, a volunteer at Shepherd's Storehouse, and dabbled in hanging wallpaper.

She is survived by her five children, Lamar and wife Cindy Slay of North Richland Hills, TX, Wayne and wife Linda Slay of Waxahachie, TX, Gene Slay of Nashville, TN, Mary and husband Ronnie Scott of Austin, TX, Terri and wife Cindy Slay of Pilot Point, TX; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Gordon, and Thomas and wife Barbara Gordon, both of Cruger, MS; as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Hewitt Gordon; and one sister, Ann Turner.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Slay Memorial Chapel of Aubrey. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Roger Marsh officiating. Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Pinecrest Cemetery in Tchula, MS. Online condolences may be shared at www.slaymemorialfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial in Jean's honor be made to Shepherd's Storehouse, P.O. Box 826, Pilot Point, TX 76258; or to the "Renovation Fund" at Calvary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 484, Pilot Point, TX 76258.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Pilot Point Care Center and Gentiva Hospice for their sweet spirits and genuine care.

Services are under the direction of Terri Slay and Slay Memorial Funeral Center, Aubrey.
