Johnnie Betts, 78 of Ponder, Texas passed away on July 12, 2014 at his home. Johnnie was born on September 6, 1935 to Charles and Thelma Browder Betts in Saginaw, Texas. He attended Poly Tech where he played basketball and led them to two consecutive state championships. He had a basketball and academic scholarship at TCU. Other interests included rode bulls and was a bronc rider; he raced drag boats and precision boats.

He married Nancy Betts in Bedford, Texas on August 21, 1999 and was retired from General Motors.

Johnnie is survived by his wife, Nancy Betts and Granddaughter Katy of Ponder; Daughter Brigette Sharp and her husband, Chesley Sharp; Stepson, Mike Quintero; Stepdaughter Tami Muncy; Grandchildren Monica Knippers and husband Cody, Duwyne Sharp and wife Lindsey, Ashley and Ryan Quintero and two great granddaughters.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Thelma Betts.

The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors on Tuesday, July 14, 2014 at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
