Labinal adds to city’s growth

We welcome Safran Group’s Labinal Inc. with open arms as it brings jobs, property tax wealth and even more distinction to the city of Denton as a regional corporate hub.

Labinal joins a corporate lineup ranging from PACCAR and Peterbilt to Target, Fastenal, Aldi and our world-renowned Sally Beauty Holdings Inc., among many others.

Denton’s list of regional, national and international companies continues to build our reputation for supplying a well-educated and diversified workforce, a broad spectrum of housing options and the potential for higher education collaboration.

We’d be remiss not to mention the thriving community spirit that captures the hearts of many a newcomer becoming acquainted with Denton. Musicians gather on the courthouse lawns, a plethora of festivities draw tens of thousands each year for everything from the Arts & Jazz Festival to the North Texas State Fair to the 35Denton music festival. Our Courthouse Square is a thriving gathering place and there’s always something going on — whether it is a holiday-themed event or a 5K race or even a dog contest. We offer plentiful areas for family gatherings at our parks and draw national and international talents to both the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University.

And we’ve come a long way in these recent years to enhance our strong points — from our downtown arts gallery to further strengthening our downtown presence with more eateries, town homes, upscale apartments and entertainment venues. We’ve added the A-train to our transportation alternatives and we’ve established a reputation for thinking outside the box in energy alternatives.

But several important elements for local officials to keep in mind include our need for better streets, plans for continued transportation improvements on major thoroughfares, ongoing development of higher-end housing, expansion of retail opportunities, affordable utilities for both the workforce and the corporations and collective communications with all of our higher education institutions to continue developing collaborative projects with the business community.

While we do well in many of these areas, we should continue to strive for further development in each. These are the very components for which corporate entities search as they decide where they will locate or relocate their facilities.
