Peterbilt sets example for all

Many of us refer to this as the season of giving — a time when we try to share our blessings by helping our neighbors — and in our view, the recent donation from Peterbilt Motors Co. in Denton to the United Way of Denton County is an outstanding example of holiday generosity.

Officials with Peterbilt Motors Co. presented a $346,464 donation to Gary Henderson, president and CEO of the United Way of Denton County, for the organization’s 2012 fundraising campaign.

As the largest corporate contributor to the United Way of Denton County, Peterbilt has donated more than $2 million dollars over the last six years.

On Monday, Henderson confirmed that Peterbilt’s contribution for the 2012 fundraising campaign was a record donation in terms of employee giving.

Bill Kozek, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president, said the company’s employees funded the donation through several fundraising activities. In a press release, he stated that Peterbilt is extremely proud of its employees and their dedication to continue to help improve the lives of those in our community.

“These contributions to the United Way of Denton County will make a difference in our community,” he stated.

They certainly will, and we would like to thank everyone at Peterbilt, as well as the many other generous donors across Denton County who have supported the United Way this year and in past years.

Thanks to your continued support, the lives of many are greatly enriched. Since 1951, United Way of Denton County has focused on distributing resources across three strategic areas — education, income and health.

We would also like to remind you that the 2012 campaign is still under way, so if you haven’t made a donation, there’s still time to do so.

In fact, Henderson told us that the current campaign will officially end on Jan. 10, which gives you ample opportunity to share some of your holiday blessings with others.

We’d also suggest that you visit the United Way’s website at to check out some of the folks who will benefit from your gift. A list of United Way partner agencies can be found by clicking on the community impact link, and agency websites detail some current needs.

One of the greatest needs at the present time is financial support for agencies that provide housing assistance and other resources to help with living expenses. These include HOPE Inc. and Interfaith Ministries of Denton Inc.

Be generous this holiday season — follow the gracious example set by employees of Peterbilt and the many other Denton County companies and individuals who support the United Way. Yes, these donors have been generous, but needs in the county continue to grow. As more families look to United Way agencies for help, resources are strained and must be replenished.

We encourage you to add the United Way of Denton County to your gift list. There’s still time.

Help make a difference by teaming up with the United Way of Denton County.

As we’ve said before, it’s a partnership that works.
