The good hearts in Denton County have risen to the occasion once again.

The grand opening of the Denton County Veterans Center on Carroll Boulevard is but the latest example of our community's ability to see a need, work the problem and then solve it.

The Veteran Community Navigator Program, based at the new building, is a partnership between United Way of Denton County and the Denton County Veterans Coalition. Its goal is to serve as a one-stop shop that connects troubled military veterans with social workers who can help them with rent assistance, therapy programs and much more.

The center was funded by private donors and was renovated by a crew from Veracity Research Co., a private investigation firm that recently moved its headquarters from Argyle to Denton.

This is an important step forward for Denton. A nation that forgets its veterans after they return to civilian life is destined to go downhill. Good that Denton remembers. Thanks to all who made Denton County Veterans Center a reality.
