The football season is over for the University of North Texas Mean Green and for Ryan High School. They brought a lot of pride to Denton during the 2017 gridiron campaign.

The Mean Green ended its season with a 50-30 defeat at the hands of the Troy University Trojans in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday.

Ryan High suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when Highland Park High School defeated the Raiders 45-35 in a Class 5A state semifinal game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The Mean Green carved out a 9-5 season record. Ryan High went 14-1. Those are impressive records that team members can reflect on with pride.

UNT quarterback Mason Fine was named to Conference USA's first team. And Ryan High quarterback Spencer Sanders is collecting honors and plaques as the premier player in Texas schoolboy football for 2017.

So let's toast UNT and Ryan High with a cup of eggnog, mulled cider or another favorite holiday beverage.
