Take a drive around the Square in Denton to look at the burned-out shell of the Downtown Mini Mall. It could have been a lot worse. Once again, we witnessed the importance of a well-trained and dedicated fire department.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within three hours. No one was injured and damage to neighboring businesses was limited.

We should also mention the Denton-area fire departments that responded to the Square: Lake Cities, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Aubrey and Lewisville. Forgive us if we left any department off this list.

Firefighting is a dangerous business. Our first responders did their job Tuesday morning. We thank them.
