If, like many area residents, you are planning on taking advantage of spring weather this weekend to explore what Denton has to offer, we have a suggestion: Take your copy of Best of Denton along for the ride.

This year’s section has been out for about a week now, and reviews have been positive for the latest edition of the popular consumer guide. You can also find the entire section online at http://www.dentonrc.com.

Either way, you have plenty of useful and entertaining information at your fingertips. Unlike some directories of goods and services, the 2014 Best of Denton features recommendations from the public.

Each year, we ask folks to vote for their favorites in categories ranging from restaurants to businesses offering a variety of services.

You may have voted for your favorites this year, and if you did, we thank you. Your input is exactly what makes this section such a winner. Who knows more about where to get an affordable lunch, a great cup of coffee or a delicious scoop of ice cream?

When it comes to important topics like those, it pays to ask the experts, and that’s what Best of Denton is all about. We consulted those who know best, and the response was tremendous — a total of 7,322 people cast 142,634 votes in this year’s contest. The results include a list of 120 top winners and two runners-up in each category.

We’ll do the math for you — that’s 360 of the best local businesses that come highly recommended.

At the back of the section, there is a complete list of winners in addition to a list of advertisers. There are also overviews of the top winners in each category, with their locations, contact information and other details you’ll need to find them.

Since this section features reader recommendations, you are probably familiar with some of the winners. Many are perennial crowd-pleasers and have appeared in our pages before.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with consistent success, and there may be some places that you haven’t patronized in a while, so why not do yourself a favor and make a return visit? It never hurts to be reminded why some businesses continue to win customer acclaim.

But there are always newcomers that rise above the crowd to win a place in the winner’s circle, so the Best of Denton is a great source of recommendations to help you find new favorites.

The release of the 2014 Best of Denton happily coincides with the annual rush of activities that always begins with the arrival of spring. There’s a lot going on right now, so it’s the perfect time to get out, explore and see what’s available.

If you plan on attending this weekend’s Denton Arts & Jazz Festival or are looking forward to next weekend’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, take our advice and check out the recommendations in Best of Denton before you go.

And keep those tips handy, there’s always plenty to do in Denton, and you’ll want to be in the know — before you go — about all the current winners of the Denton Record-Chronicle Readers’ Choice Award.
