Growth brings changes
I am in my 70s and have lived all my life in and around the Denton area and am constantly surprised about things that happen due to the increased growth in the area.
Recently, I had an appointment in McKinney and drove my usual route down U.S. Highway 380.
I have driven this road hundreds of times in my lifetime and am always surprised at what I see — but this trip brought something else to my lifestyle that I think needs to be passed on to others.
I had a specific appointment and left with what I thought was plenty of time to make the appointment on time — but I got to my appointment late and was disturbed by the time the trip took and decided to check things out on my return about an hour later.
The first thing that I realized was the increased number of red stop lights along the highway so I began counting them and evaluating the time.
From the major U.S. Highway 75 intersection in McKinney westward to Loop 288 at Highway 380 in Denton, I went through 17 separate light intersections and it took me 51 minutes to drive at the required speed while I traveled the 34 miles on this route.
As usual — I seemed to approach each of the lights while it was on red.
Wow — what a change and I am sure I am not the only one who lives in our area that is surprised at this added feature due to the growth of our area.
