Unmitigated gall

First and foremost “would most probably” does not by any stretch of the imagination constitute a fact, Hyme Solomon [DRC, Feb. 2].

It is more rambling inconsequential ideas that have as much informational value as an avocado left on the kitchen cabinet for a month.

The assault on institutionalizing the mentally ill began in 1973 with the work of Rosenthal. You labeled it an assault by liberals.

Let’s thumb through our history book and see what we shall see — 1968, 1970, 1972, ah, getting there. Here it is during the administration of well, bless my liberal heart, Richard Milhous Nixon.

Ronald Reagan during the 1980s pursued a policy toward treatment of mental illness that satisfied the special-interest groups and the demand of the business community but failed to address the issues of mental illness.

You, with a total disregard for truth, have the unmitigated gall to accuse Jim Stodola of ignorance, with no facts except what you have picked up from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Fox News and the other right-wing hate merchants; you dare to attack truth, substituting fantasy for fact.

That tactic is nothing new to the tight righties but you, sir, have hit a new and ridiculous low, even for them.

You might attempt to establish an image as a gentleman and issue a personal apology to Stodola.

It is badly needed.

John Nance Garner,
Denton
